POSITION TITLE: Part - Time Tutor

Supervisor’s Title: Enrichment and Volunteer Services Manager
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
The Tutor will help students learn by, reviewing content with students, explaining how to solve problems and checking completed work. The Tutor may also help students develop study skills and organization techniques to help improve their academic performance which may be done in a one-on-one or group setting. Tutors will keep records of students’ program attendance and individual academic progress and share those reports with supervisors, teachers and parents. In addition to supporting student academics, the Tutor is responsible for supervising groups of students during the program by providing discipline and serving as a role model.
The Tutor is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing and optimal learning environment for all youth participating in the programs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Services: Identify additional supports and resources needed for youth to successfully complete homework and/or projects.
· Coordinate the delivery of Kahn Academy and 1:1 tutoring.
· Assist with enrichment and activities during TASC programming.
· Present information and teach lessons for enrichment during TASC.

2. Documentation: Assists with timely, thorough and objective documentation of student and staff interactions and benefits of all activities. Documentation includes sign in sheets and lesson plans for each session, communication logs, progress notes, incident reports, and other documentation as required.

3. Training: Participates in meetings and minimally obtains required trainings such as CPR, First Aid, Blood-borne Pathogens, and CPI certification. Attends other related training (provided by CYDC) in accordance with CYDC requirements.

4. Compliance: The Tutor will adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by Carolina Youth Development Center and with all grant requirements and contractual obligations. The Tutor will provide all necessary documents for program audits and.

5. Facilitation of a safe learning environment: Under the supervision of the Enrichment and Volunteer Services Manager the Tutor is responsible for the development and ongoing supervision of the learning environment and treatment for all youth participating in the program. The Tutor actively evaluates all interventions and offers suggestions for improving the service delivery.

Internal – All levels of CYDC staff including peers and management.
External – Stakeholders, partners, referring agencies, parents, families and volunteers.
License or Certification: Valid SC driver’s license with a good driving record.
Decision Making Authority: Must possess the ability to make sound decisions weighing all of the factors for good judgment based on CYDC policies and procedures. Decisions must reflect good clinical skills as well as the best interests of the clients and families.

Functional Knowledge:
Type of Knowledge Required and or Skills Required: Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to work with a diverse population as well as “high-risk” youth and families. Must have the skills to actively engage other professionals as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to develop well-rounded, behavioral interventions. Must possess excellent group facilitation skills.
Education and Specific Training: Minimum qualifications include: High school diploma and 2 years working in education. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, teaching certificate, two years of experience as tutor, teacher’s aide/assistant.
