Professional Parents - Children's Hope Alliance

Committed and Caring PROFESSIONAL PARENTS are needed for children and teens in Children's Hope Alliance Foster Care Program across North Carolina. When you become a Professional Parent, you give a child the stability and support they need as their family works toward reunification. Applications accepted from all North Carolina Counties.

Every day, foster families make a difference in children's lives by providing safe and caring temporary homes. Foster care is home-like care provided by licensed foster parents for children who cannot live with their parents because they:

§  Are not safe        

§  Have special care or treatment needs that their parents are unable to manage

§  Other circumstances resulting in their parents/family being unable to care for them

 

YOU can make a difference in the life of a child!

§  Pay Rate:                    $40,000 per year

§  Plus:                            Additional Monthly Stipend based on youths recommended level of care

 Important Characteristics of Professional Parents:

§  strong parenting skills (or the ability and willingness to develop these skills)

§  time and energy to invest in a child's life

§  a genuine concern for the well-being of children and their families.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

§  High School Diploma or GED

§  2 years of previous work experience in a related field is preferred

 Foster parents must:

§  Be at least 21 years old

§  Have a stable home and income (rent, mortgage, house, apartment is all acceptable) 

§  Maintain a drug free environment

§  Be willing to be fingerprinted and have a criminal records check

 Physical Requirements / Environmental Safety:

§  Applicants and all household members must receive a Medical Evaluation from a licensed medical provider. 

§  The foster home must pass a fire inspection by the local fire inspector 

§  Environmental checklist must be completed by the foster home licensing social worker (Addresses: gun storage, water quality, general sanitary conditions of the home, etc.)         

§  Exterior spaces around the home are clear of dangerous objects or hazardous items          

§  Each foster child shall have his/her own bed and the bedroom should provide space child's personal possessions (No bedroom sharing)

§  Foster homes design allows children privacy while bathing, dressing, using toilet facilities         

§  Foster parents must sign a Discipline Agreement that states foster children

~ Pets shall be assessed for safety ~

 Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Individual or Couple who are currently licensed or willing to become a licensed therapeutic foster parent:

§  Complete agency training in the Teaching Family Model (TFM)

§  Participate in Child and Family Team Meetings

§  Maintain medical administration records (MARs) and grids ensuring timeliness and accuracy.

§  Complete all documentation within agency deadlines, according to regulatory guidelines

§  Participate in the planning/delivery of services regarding admission, treatment, and discharge. (This includes therapy, Child & Family Team Meetings, as well as other services as needed.)

§  Complete all preservice training in required time frames. (Families will annually complete 10 hours of training.)

§  Complete all re-licensure requirements as identified by regulatory guidelines.
