Family Specialist - Homes of Hope: Patrick Henry Family Services

Patrick Henry Family Services Operations is seeking committed candidates to apply to join our Homes of Hope ministry serving single mothers and their children as our Family Specialist.

The Homes of Hope Family Specialist (female applicants only) is a live-in position with housing provided, with flexible scheduling to include some scheduled weekly working hours, and some on-call hours. The Family Specialist, working as a treatment team member, plays a key role in helping young, single mothers learn and heal from previous trauma, and are trained/supported as such.  TPs are trained to effectively apply the Teaching Family Model, Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and attachment strategies in a congregate living setting and to provide life skills training and education to families in care. The Homes of Hope (HoH) Family Specialist develops and oversees the complete operation of the Homes of Hope home to provide residents with a safe, encouraging environment. The Homes of Hope Family Specialist supports the day to day operations as well as the development and implementation of all case plans for clients and their children. The HoH Family Specialist resides in an on-site apartment at no cost, and is not responsible for utilities.

Professionally apply the Teaching Family Model, adapted to the population, along with trauma-informed care (TBRI) and attachment sensitive practices to the care of  HOH clients and their children.

Consistently demonstrate flexibility, collaboration, team-centered thinking and actions (“hungry, humble, smart”) and a game-on attitude

Play a key role with each client and the treatment team in defining each client’s goals and service plans

Assist with casework duties pertaining to the clients and their children

Completes daily documentation for service plan delivery.

Effectively teach each clients social/relational and life skills pertaining to their service plans

Complete required certifications and recertify per standards

Assist and encourage clients with identifying and growing their areas of strength

Pursue training and reading to improve performance as a family consultant 

Assess the ongoing needs of the cottage to ensure it is a safe and comfortable for the care of clients and their children

Provide support for the day to day operations, including the safety of clients and their children

Plans for and provides transportation for the clients and their children when needed

Develops and implements a working case plan for all clients and their children

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other human services area preferred.

High School Degree required.

Experience:

1-3 years’ experience, including practical experience in parenting education

Computer Skills:

Basic technology skills:  using computers, Microsoft Office software, fax machines, and telephones

Other Requirements:

Final applicants and Household Members who will live on site must submit to applicable background checks (Search of Central Registry, Virginia State Police and FBI Screening)

Languages: Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written word in the English language

Office or other equipment: Normal use and understanding of basic office equipment including the computer and its related software, copiers, and fax machines

Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
