Executive Director - Childhelp (Lignum, Virginia)

Responsible for providing leadership, enterprise-aligned strategy, and management of all programs/services in one’s assigned region/site with a focus on programs, fundraising, community relations, and chapter engagement with the goals to seize new opportunities to serve more children, add new services, diversify funding, etc.

This position has supervisory level direct reports.

Essential Duties:

Leadership and Management

Working in partnership with leadership, develops the strategic direction and alignment plan for the Childhelp programs/services in the assigned region/site that support the broader enterprise-wide corporate objectives, and to drive organizational value. With a focus on leadership, mission, vision, culture, strategy, best practices and continuous improvement, performs the following:

Leads and directs the planning, design, scoping, functional analysis, development, implementation, and support of site program and service offerings for:

Psychiatric Residential Treatment 

Ensures that technical and quality standards are implemented effectively throughout the programs and services, in compliance with all federal, state, local, and other applicable regulatory and/or program requirements to include audit readiness.    

Leads and directs the region’s/department’s resource planning and allocation for optimal capacity, utilization, and performance.

Has budget responsibilities including the development, implementation, and attainment of established outcomes.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Childhelp’s cultural values and performance principles, company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: 

Actively participating in the interviewing and hiring processes and ensuring successful functional on-boarding of new employees

Planning, assigning and directing work for direct reports

Setting reasonable stretch performance goals, providing constructive, balanced, regular performance feedback & coaching, and conducting annual performance appraisals

Recognizing and rewarding performance excellence

Communicating and enforcing company policies and program models

Applying corrective action, addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely fashion, involving and collaborating with leadership and Human Resources as appropriate. 

In collaboration with leadership and Human Resources, develops and executes a plan for retaining and developing talent to meet current and future business objectives to include:

Engaging in talent review evaluations

Collaborating with direct reports on their professional development and growth

Assisting with developing leadership succession plans for the department

Functional/Operational

Performs the following personally and through subordinate employees:

Leads site business operations to ensure sustainability through a combination of productivity and accountability design, diversified services, diversified funding streams, and support the fundraising program to include:

Programs:

Establishes program goals including children served and quality outcomes

Creates a service model, feedback/accountability mechanism, success measurements to track and report on goals

Fundraising:

Provides support for the Childhelp’s larger fundraising strategy 

Supports development activities to build the donor base

Directs the day to day development efforts as aligned with the Chief Development Officer to ensure development goals are achieved including making asks and meeting established benchmarks such as cost to raise a dollar and budgeted revenue and expenses

Community: Positions the site for prominence in the community through advocacy, outreach, public relations, and community involvement to include:

Serves as the Childhelp leader in the community in identification of needs and how Childhelp can support them, identifying funding opportunities, collaborating with others to achieve community goals, and establishing Childhelp as a key partner in the local community

Provides education and communication to external stakeholders regarding Childhelp and issues related to our mission

Creates opportunities for expanding services, diversifying funding, etc.

Builds relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and decision-makers creating opportunities for Childhelp to participate in the development of key community initiatives and advocate for services that meet the needs of those we serve

Board/Chapter Engagement: 

Supports region Chapters in achieving their goals as it relates to recruitment, development, and engagement in support of Childhelp's strategic and fundraising plans in the local community 

Requirements

Education & Experience, Knowledge/Understanding

Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum of ten years’ experience and demonstrable success leading and growing programs and improving financial outcomes

Minimum of 3 years of experience with residential treatment services

Knowledge of compliance with licensing, accreditation, contracts, and financial standards

Strong financial and business acumen

Skills

Superb verbal, written, and listening communication skills

Strong public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to develop and deliver presentations to potential donors, boards of directors, and a variety of stakeholders

Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in high-pressure situations

Excellent interpersonal skills and demeanor

Proficient in the use of a PC in a Windows environment; in the use of the Internet; and in the use of MS Office Applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel, PowerPoint

Abilities

Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and also participate collaboratively as part of a team

Ability to work in a confidential manner, ensuring information is shared with internal and external individuals in an appropriate manner 

Ability to travel 25% of the time

Physical Demands

In the course of performing the essential duties one must be able to exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)

Preferences

Degree in human services, business administration or related field

Local management experience as part of a national or international organization

Previous experience growing fundraising, building and engaging boards, and nurturing and building community relationships
